Relational Urbanism
2013 - 2014: Research Cluster 18
Eduardo Rico, Enriqueta Llabres, Zachary Fluker
Relational Urbanism RC18 explores how digital design techniques influence the ways in which we think and design conditions of contemporary urban phenomenon. Moving away from a limited focus on density and centrality, the cluster wants to engage with definitions of the urban phenomenon that encompass the various disperse territorial systems that support conditions of agglomeration. The engagement with a systemic “hinterland” of resource and supply around global regions shall bring, as a result, unexpected geographies and new forms of understanding of the territory. The cluster will focus mainly on how modern infrastructure networks and large scale urban transformations can be re purposed to form unexpected radical agendas that work critically within the rapidly changing nature of our social environment. This year, RC18 will study the ways in which fast landscape transformations resulting from resource extractions can be retooled towards critical agendas of urban morphologies.
